Statistics is a much versatile subject which can be applied in almost every field. The curriculum of MSc (Statistics) programme incorporates ideas and methods such as data analysis, data visualization, and large-scale data-based inquiry for big data, and non-standard design methodologies, along with topics of machine learning, algorithmic techniques, and optimization, to tackle issues that come up with large-scale data such as memory and computational speed. This programme aims to train the students in the development and applications of Statistical techniques for analyzing data arising in the scientific investigation of problems in various disciplines.
The faculty in department of Mathematics and Statistics have a long-standing reputation and experience of offering high quality taught courses in areas of Statistics.These courses haveaimed to offer a thorough professional training which prepare students to embark on statistical careers in a variety of areas. (There is a shortage of statisticians trained to postgraduate level in the country and the employment prospects for such people remain good.) They have also provided a very good foundation for further study at PhD level.
Courses in this program are taught by faculty who have obtained Doctorate from various institutions of national importance such as IITs and NITs.

Our current MSc programme in Statistics allows students to take various electivessuch as Financial Statistics, industrial statistics depending on their interests and career aspirations.
It is also proposed to provide first hand practical experience in handling modern statistical software in the analysis of data.
This programme will equip students with a range of transferable skills, including problem-solving, critical thinking, project work and presentation, to enable them to take on prominent roles in a wide array of employment and research sectors.
