The structured Program

The structured PhD programs at SRU educate and train talented doctoral students to conduct original and innovative research in engineering and management, educate future generations, and take a lead role in developing cutting-edge technologies while working in industry and academia. PhD programs are offered both full-time and part-time. The program is structured in three phases to enable the timely completion.

Induction Phase

The first year of the Ph.D. program is structured to:

Introduce Research methodology

Enhance technical communication skills (which are needed to successful completing thesis and publishing technical papers)

Identify a faculty committee with the right align of interests with your research goals

Perform literature review

Define a research topic

Completion of the coursework

Acceleration Phase

In this phase, the candidate:

Defines the research problem or hypothesis

Plans the research study with strict timeline

Collects and analyzes data

Draws conclusions

Publishes technical papers with preliminary data

To reduce the time requirements, SRU helps to accelerate by:

Eligibility Criteria

1-year / 2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year / 8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year / 4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.

Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year / 8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.

A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC / ST / OBC (non-creamy layer) / Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

Exemption from Eligibility Test: Only those candidates who have valid JRF / CSIR / NET / GATE / SET score shall be exempted from the written test of the Ph.D. selection process, and they will be required to appear for the Interview only.



Direct Ph.D. Admission after 4-Yr B.Tech

Admission as per UGC norms (Min. CGPA - 7.5).

Details of Eligibility Test

Duration: The entrance test typically be two hours duration and consists of 100 multiple choice questions (No negative marking)

Mode of Selection

Only Shortlisted candidates will be called for Interview based on the performance in Eligibility Test conducted by SRU. The performance of the candidate in Eligibility Test and Interview including the weightage of research publications and PPT presentation of the proposed research work will be considered for the final selection.

Note: In case of candidates who are exempted from Eligibility Test, mode of selection is based on Interview performance including the weightage of research publications and PPT presentation of the proposed research work.

Minimum Duration of the Program

Ph.D. programme shall be for a minimum duration of three (3) years, including course work, and a maximum duration of six (6) years from the date of admission to the programme.

Fellowships

Financial Support will be provided to full time Ph.D. scholars in the form of Ph.D. Assistantship, subject to terms and conditions as per University rules.

INR 40,000/- (Rupees Forty Thousand per month) to full time Ph.D. scholars in Engineering, Agriculture, Sciences and Humanities and Management.

Note:

Admission through interviews for recent JRF/CSIR/NET/GATE/SET candidates.

2.

JRF qualified candidates will receive additional subsistence (7000/-) per month.

3.

Conditions for continuation and total duration of applicability of the Ph.D. Assistantship shall be as per the Ph.D. regulations of the University.
