Dr. B. Sivakumar is a faculty member in the Dept. of Chemistry, specializing in materials science, corrosion science, surface engineering, nanomaterials, and biomedical materials. He has extensive research experience in developing functional nanomaterials and advanced surface coatings for biomedical and engineering applications. His work focuses particularly on antibacterial surfaces, corrosion and tribocorrosion protection, bioimplant coatings, and photothermal antibacterial therapy. He has gained research experience from Pukyong National University in South Korea (4.5 years), Hunan University in China (10 months), IIT Madras (2 years), and CSIR laboratories in India. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals and has contributed to books and book chapters in the fields of materials and biomedical applications.
He joined SR University in January 2026 as an assistant professor and was recently promoted to associate professor in the Dept. of Chemistry (Basic Sciences). He is actively involved in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students and part-time PhD research scholars. His teaching interests include computational chemistry, material characterization techniques, electrochemistry, corrosion science, and surface engineering. He is particularly interested in integrating computational approaches, experimental characterization, and application-oriented research to provide students with interdisciplinary learning and research opportunities.
