Dr. Raj’s research focuses on improving soil health, crop productivity, nutrient-use efficiency, and the sustainability of agricultural production systems. His major areas of research include soil fertility evaluation, micronutrient and secondary nutrient management, integrated nutrient management, and the diagnosis of nutrient constraints affecting crop yield and quality, Soil and Water Pollution, Agronomic Biofortification.
He was the first scientist in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh to investigate Musi River pollution in and around Hyderabad. His pioneering research on the Soil–Water–Plant–Animal/Human continuum contributed to understanding the movement and implications of pollutants across environmental and agricultural systems. He has also made significant contributions to the development and application of DRIS indices for field and horticultural crops to identify yield-limiting nutrients and improve fertilizer recommendations.
His broader research interests include sustainable soil management, environmental quality, nutrient fortification, soil and crop pollution, climate-resilient agriculture, and science-based strategies for enhancing agricultural productivity. He is particularly interested in translating research outcomes into practical recommendations that benefit farmers, strengthen agricultural education, and support sustainable food production.
Dr. Raj’s teaching interests encompass core and advanced areas of Soil Science, with emphasis on the scientific principles and practical applications of soil fertility and plant nutrition. His areas of interest include:
Fundamentals of Soil Science and Soil Chemistry
Soil Fertility and Fertilizer Management
Principles of Plant Nutrition
Micronutrients and Secondary Nutrients in Crop Production
