Invited Talk

Presenting a talk titled "Recalling a single object: Going beyond the capacity debate" at School of Arts and Sciences, Ahmedabad University on 20th September, 2023. This presentation aims to explore my research on how we can go beyond traditional debates about working memory capacity by looking into the details of recalling a single object

SCI Q1 Paper

My work with my Masters student Bhavesh K Verma was recently published a paper in Scientific Reports (Nature) titled "Emergence of behavioral phenomena and adaptation effects in human numerosity decoder using recurrent neural networks". This study develops a novel computational model for number perception utilizing self-excitatory and mutual inhibitory properties. Our approach achieves coverage of a broad range of numerosities through three distinct intervals, which aligns closely with breakpoints identified in behavioral studies. Additionally, our proposed mechanism enables the network to operate effectively across an extended range of numerosities while decoding mean activation into continuous scale from 1 to 50. Check out my article here: https://lnkd.in/gt5M8ipB

SCI – Q2

The paper, "Is Deceitful Autobiographical Memory Really Forgotten?", was recently published in the journal Psychological Reports. It was a work done as a part of a DST-CSRI funded project of our colleague Ramana Rao PV, "To Study the Role of Human Memory in Deceit and Fairness" (DST/CSRI/2017/467). I also want to specially mention our former JRF Micheal Jackson, who came up with the idea of reprogramming the code for Flappy Bird game for this research. Our research explored whether reminding people of their past misdeeds would reduce deceptive behavior and how the experience or phenomenology of remembering differs between immoral and moral memories. We found evidence suggesting that reminding participants about deceitful autobiographical memory does not reduce deceptive behavior, but emotional valence is significantly different between immoral and moral memory. This contradicts established results in the field.
