This project aimed to develop and optimize TiO2 and SiO2 thin films for use as back reflectors in thin-film solar cells. Using a sol-gel spin coating method, various reflectors were fabricated with different spectral properties. The resulting reflectors were transparent and could be used as individual or dual-mode reflectors for UV, visible, and IR wavelengths. While the maximum number of TiO2-SiO2 stacks was limited, these reflectors demonstrated potential for enhancing solar cell efficiency.
This project aimed to synthesize and characterize pure and metal-doped TiO2 nanoparticles for dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) applications. Various synthesis methods were explored, with the solvothermal method proving most effective in producing mesoporous TiO2 microspheres. The doped TiO2 nanoparticles exhibited reduced bandgap, enhanced optical absorption, and improved DSSC efficiency compared to undoped TiO2. This project focused on designing and optimizing one-dimensional photonic crystals (1DPCs) for application in thin-film silicon solar cells. By incorporating 1DPCs as bottom reflectors, we significantly enhanced the absorption and quantum efficiency of the solar cells. We investigated various material combinations and grating structures, optimizing the design parameters to achieve maximum performance. This project aimed to develop and optimize thin films of silicon dioxide, silicon nitride, and silicon oxynitride for solar cell applications. To achieve this, we designed and constructed a low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (CVD) system. Using this indigenously developed equipment, we successfully deposited SiO2, Si3N4, and SiON thin films. This project focuses on the synthesis of various doped ZnAl2O4 ceramic nanoparticles using an economical sol–gel method suitable for microstrip patch antenna applications.
